Chippy White Wednesday

I was planning to post last week but I was attending a 6 day rug hooking workshop in Missouri. Even though I took the pictures of my treasures found at the Junk Bonanza in Shakopee Minnesota a few days before I went out of town, I couldn't find time to get them posted last week so here goes.....almost 2 weeks after the show....

(The rug hooking workshop was just too much fun!)

I've never been to this show before so I walked around the entire place so I could absorb it all first. Then I came across this booth! The Hog Shed from Lester Prairie, Minnesota. Not only do I love the name but I found the best stuff in their booth! This cool old twin washtub caught my eye first but I already have one, there was an old mirror leaning against it not shown here because I bought it before I took the picture!

A picture of The Hog Shed gals...I wish I had asked their names... they were the nicest gals!
I loved their booth!

I'm looking for an old white chippy painted long skinny cupboard door frame for a project and I also have been collecting old mirrors especially if they are beveled or etched. I might remove the heavy old mirror if my husband can figure a way to hang it horizontally and them I'll have the frame for my project. This is one heavy mirror!

Then I noticed this piece of old trim and I HAD to have it! I didn't go there looking for white things but it just happened! I plan to hang the old porch trim from an earlier post on our living room wall and then hang this a little bit higher above that piece. I like that it has a sort of narrow shelf on top so that I can set a few small things on it. It's 46" wide and probably was above a door or a window in it's past life.
I really like this piece!
Isn't that the best crackled white paint!!!!

After I paid for my 2 items I asked the gals if I could leave them there while I shopped. When I came back to their booth I spotted this old iron head board. The foot board was already sold and I would have loved to have bought that too but I'm so glad I got the head board.

While I was walking around I picked up the old wood stove part...I'll screw it to the wall or an old piece of wood and I can hang something on it. I love old glass doorknobs and the set here had one purple glass doorknob from the sun baking on it for years. All the better! I love that one is purple glass and the other the original clear. And of course one more lonely glass doorknob that I'll attach to a rod and use as a garden decoration.

Thanks for visiting!

Thanks Kathleen from Faded Charm for another White Wednesday!

Vintage Old Trunk For White Wednesday

This is really pretty cool....I had no idea what we had until we opened this old trunk!

When we moved 21 years ago we moved this old trunk from my husbands old farm house which he bought from his grandparents. We left it in the garage, it looked crusty and smelled pretty bad so neither of us felt like going through it and sort of forgot about it. A couple of weeks ago we decided it was time to move it out to where the climate is drier and then we would look inside.

It belonged to my husbands Great Grandmother's sister Mary Gausman. Mary was an unmarried school teacher and enjoyed traveling during her summers off. I love that some of the old sticker is still visible. I imagine this is Union Pacific Railroad, we know she traveled out west often. Dated 1899. Looks like St. Paul and that would be the closest town. It looks like 7 15 before the 1899 so that tells me it might have been checked in on July 15.

We have the travel brochures and souvenirs from her travels.

I took photos while opening it....

An old fur collar surprisingly in very good shape with a really cool old button on the end. It was on top just like this so she must have cherished it...

An old pennant from a trip...

Old spats (I wonder why did she have 2 pairs of spats), crochet night caps (I think), a cotton petticoat trimmed with crochet lace, an applique tablecloth, maybe it's a light weight bed cover, a few crochet doilies and some old blankets and old underwear bottoms!...

A beautiful black purse carefully wrapped up in something else and in perfect condition...she must have cherished this purse!

There were some other items but I'm only showing the best, otherwise this post would be way too long...

A beautiful hand pieced and hand quilted quilt...it's a little yellowed, it should be off white and I think I'll try to soak it properly and brighten it up a little. Otherwise very little wear, mostly just on the scalloped edges. Did she make the quilt? We'll never know.

A chenille bedspread that is in good shape but could use a gentle washing.

All of the photos are shot in our pole barn which has only a dirt floor for now but great care was taken while going through all of this and nothing touched the floor. Someone had put a very nasty smelling bug deterrent inside years ago which is completely gone except for the smell...I'll bet whatever it was has been long banned...but...not a single bug was found, not even in the fur collar!

This trunk has sat like this for decades, I suppose Mary G. packed it all away herself a long time ago. I can't believe I didn't look 21 years ago but then maybe I would not have appreciated it as much as I do now. I was pretty much surprised to say the least when I found what was inside.

We have more things that belonged to her that are not from this trunk that I'll post another time.

Thanks for stopping by!

Tattered Treasure from Exuberant Housewifery

I just wanted to show you some of the pretty treasures I picked up from Exuberant Housewifery on Etsy recently. Stephanie has the best assortments. The pink crochet hat pin cushion was purchased separately but all the rest of the pink goodies were in one 'Tattered Treasure'. I just love finding these in her Etsy shop. They don't last long so if you check out her shop and see something you like...don't hesitate to snap it up!
(click on the pinks and you get a really good look at the treasures!)

Old Maytag Ringer Washers

You may think I have an obsession with old Maytag wringer washing machines, and I guess I am little different!

I grew up using a wringer washer. That's just how my mom and my Grandmother washed clothes.

I love doing laundry this way. It's faster, it saves water, clothes get cleaner and for me it's enjoyable. I think the best part is hanging everything on the clothes line in the sunshine to dry.

This is my moms old Maytag and I'm still using it. Runs like new! Unfortunately it's not set up at home but at our vacation place. Eventually it will make it into the house but for now I do the laundry in the pole barn.

This is my Grandmothers old Maytag. I picked up an old wooden electric Puffer Hubbard years ago at a flea market you can see in the background.

We picked this one up at a yard sale....I really wanted a turquoise washer....

Then I found this one for $15...good for parts or a planter....

My husband left me alone for a few minutes at a farm auction and this is what I bought while he wasn't looking....3 at $10 each... how could I choose just one! I think one is in good shape but the others can be for parts and to use as flower planters.

We're on our way home and a friend tells me she knows where I can pick up a gas wringer washer for free....we're stopping at his ranch!

Thank you Kathleen of Faded Charm for another White Wednesday!
