Patterns

This White Wednesday I thought I would pay tribute to our Grandmother's and Great Grandmother's, probably Great Great Grandmother's too, who made all of the lovely crochet bedspreads, runners doilies, etc.

To think they would sit there for hours in dim light and work with this fine crochet thread and a teeny hook and make beautiful huge bedspreads!

Here are just a few close-ups from my ever growing stash. Some were made by my Grandmother and many were purchased. I tend to hoard these pieces when I see them for sale for fear someone will buy them to cut apart, at least while I'm alive they will remain whole.
Such pretty patterns!

I have always appreciated this fine work but even more so now that I'm attempting to do it!
This is my first little flower using vintage size 30 thread and a size 11 hook.

I never in my wildest dreams thought I could crochet with a teeny hook and that fine thread but I LOVE it! I will certainly never make a huge bedspread or a runner but maybe a doily some day!

Right now the flowers are making me happy.

Thank you Faded Charm!

  7. I made 1 pillow case edge, ha! Won't be much of a hope chest contribution. I've started buying old linens again, it's dawned on me that there aren't that many people anymore making new heirlooms like yourself.

  9. Hi Faye,

All of the crochet is beautiful. I've been crocheting for 18 years and I still love it as much as I did when I taught myself.

The size 10, 20 and 30 threads make up such beautiful trim and flowers. If you are just starting to crochet then you may not be aware of all the specialty threads...so many to choose from.

I'm visiting for my first White Wednesday.

    Happy Day,
    Stephanie ♥
